Sophie Ellis Bextor: Catch You
With the UK currently experiencing a severe shortage of genuine female pop stars, Sophie Ellis Bextor makes a welcome return with her new single ‘Catch You’ on 19th February.
Having taken the last couple of years off to have a baby and get hitched to the Feeling’s bass guitarist Richard Jones, ‘Catch You’ will be Ellis Bextor’s first big release since her second solo album, 2003’s Shoot from the Hip and the two top ten hits it spawned, ‘Mixed Up World’ and ‘I Won’t Change You’.
The single’s video, shot on location in Venice, is the brainchild of Sophie Muller, the acclaimed director behind recent promo clips for Beyonce and Gwen Stefani.

Ellis Bextor’s third album, Trip the Light Fantastic, will be unleashed in May.
They say:
Digital Spy: “Ellis Bextor’s music is, like the lady herself, top class pop.”
Gigwise: “It’s certainly a departure from ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’, sound wise, but it’s still just as likely to trigger a few.”
We say:
As comeback singles go, ‘Catch You’ is certainly not one to be messed with, gatecrashing the brain with its intoxicating blend of indie cool guitar and ’80s electro dance pop.
Part hunter on the prowl, part cupid’s fool, it’s arguably the closest the Bextor has come to recapturing her pre solo days when she was the frontwoman of theaudience and regarded as the “It Girl” of the indie pop scene.
The break from her day job has obviously done her the world of good. She sounds ambitious, focused and rejuvenated.
More to the point, she sounds like she’s ready to crack a few pop tart skulls and commit murder on the dancefloor once again.
